Insurance

As in past years it will be a requirement that all pilots competing in the UK Championships have valid third party insurance. This is a requirement of the event insurance company and of the organising committee - and I'm sure you'll agree that it makes sense too!

Any persons intending to fly: competition pilots, freeflyers and marshals, will be required to present their insurance papers for validation when booking in at the field HQ. Pilots planning to compete must have valid competition endorsement. You will need to have organised your insurance prior to the event, as the organisers are unable to arrange this.

The two current sources of insurance that we are aware of are:

  1. BHPA (www.bhpa.co.uk) under their normal membership scheme with Paramotoring endorsement (SPHG). The BHPA is the route we know well, they provide good cover and support Pilots in the event of a claim.
  2. OnRisk (www.onrisk.co.uk).

Please note that some pilots have previously been covered by Verspieren. Verspieren have indicated to a number of pilots that they no longer provide cover in the UK but their cover will be acceptable if correctly evidenced.

As a Committee we are not endorsing or recommending any of the options above. If you have found alternative cover, the requirements will be the same as for Verspieren. If you are in doubt about whether your cover is sufficient, please feel free to contact the organisers WELL BEFORE the event.

Evidence of Insurance can be in the form of a valid BHPA Membership card (for the full period of the event) with SPHG endorsement OR a schedule from another provider (such as OnRisk or Verspieren), which specifically states that competition flying is included. The schedule must also show all correct details (including pilot personal details, address, etc). OnRisk tell us that this statement will be included in their documentation for those who request it.

YOU need to make sure you have the correct paperwork as no exceptions can be made.

Who can attend?

Following the theme of previous years, the competition will be safe, fun, simple & fair. We aim to maintain a similar format to the 2008 event with families and visitors very welcome. Hopefully the word should be getting out that this is NOT an elitist event and new pilots are made very welcome (subject to minimum hours). As we did last year, we'll buddy newcomers to the Championships with pilots who've attended a few comps before to help make it a really enjoyable experience.
